Cluster Saúde de Galicia (CSG)

The CSG seeks first level auditor for neuroATLANTIC.

26 de October de 2020/in CSG Press Room, Sector Press Room /by Cluster Saúde de Galicia (CSG)

The Cluster Saúde de Galicia, CSG, leads the neuroATLANTIC capitalization WP whose main objective is to transfer research into early detection methods for Alzheimer’s and stroke to the industry.

What is neuroATLANTIC?

Neurological diseases are disorders that affect the central nervous system and can impair the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerve or neuromuscular function. Most of these diseases are directly related to ageing, with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and stroke being especially relevant due to their incidence and the economic burden they carry. More than 7.5 million European citizens aged between 30 and 99 years suffer from different types of dementia.

neuroATLANTIC project will contribute to address this challenge by proposing new standardized clinical protocols, innovative diagnostic and treatment methods and ensuring technology transfer to enterprises to favour the uptake of innovations in real settings. Specifically, neuroATLANTIC will act on the clinical, preclinical and capitalization aspects as following:

  1. The project will explore best clinical practices to elaborate a “green paper” to propose an improved clinical management (diagnosis and treatment) of Alzheimer´s Disease and stroke patients.
  2. neuroATLANTIC will set up a preclinical translational research platform with all the elements needed (animal models, nanostructures synthesis, assessment of exploitation potential, etc.) to bring innovative theragnostic agents and nanobiosensors (to be used to enhance diagnosis and treatment) to real settings. To test the translation platform feasibility, we will focus on two initial projects: biofunciontionalized nanostructures as contrast agents and nanobiosensors. These projects will give us useful insights to strengthen such platform in the future.
  3. neuroATLANTIC will pay attention to capitalization of results: technology roadmap and exploitation plans will be delivered for the selected projects; a governance structure will be defined in order to select new projects to be developed in the platform and, finally, R&D mission-oriented guidelines will be developed in order to define a strategic R&D agenda to address neurological diseases in the future.

The CSG participates in a webinar on innovations in digital health organized by EPIC

31 de July de 2020/in CSG Press Room, Sector Press Room /by

On July 30, the webinar “How should we continue working together in Cornwall to develop digital health innovations in the future? “ The talk was led by Dr. Sebastian Stevens EPIC Research Fellow in which they also participated as speakers Arunangsu Chatterjee, Co-Director of EPIC, Andy Bleaden, Director of Ecosystems and Associates at ECHAlliance and Gisela García-Álvarez, Manager of the CSG.

It is important to note that the EPIC project, in its work to identify real world problems and develop innovative solutions to them, has been working with a wide range of stakeholders, ranging from healthcare providers and patients to technology companies in Cornwall and political actors, among others. These collaborations not only seek the creation of useful products and services that could benefit our health and well-being, but also seek to boost the local economy through the creation of jobs, with the potential to export the solutions nationally and world.

At this point it is noteworthy that the international collaboration of the CSG with this ECHAlliance ecosystem is one of the pillars of support for innovation in health in both ecosystems, one of the objectives of the CSG being to position and make known to its associates in Cornwall and Plymouth. For this, the CSG is in the process of negotiating and signing an agreement that facilitates this work for its partners.

EPIC organizes a webinar about the implementation of voice activated data entry in the health sector

3 de July de 2020/in CSG Press Room, Sector Press Room /by

The CSG attended on June 25th the webinar organized by EPIC (eHealth Productivity and Innovation in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly) and which theme was about the possibilities of implementing voice-activated data entry within the health sector, using Ask Cornwall, an online community designed to make useful connections and share ideas for improvements in the health and care sectors.

During the session, led by Inocencio Maramba, EPIC Research Associate, a study was highlighted in which it was found that medical personnel, specifically nursing personnel, dedicated a third of their time to data entry and administrative tasks.

Specifically, the talk focused on whether the use of voice interface technology could help reduce the burden of paperwork in health and care settings, and whether it could provide a benefit for infection control.

In this regard, new advances in artificial intelligence mean that voice interfaces can present an opportunity to reduce time spent on administration, capture standardized information, and allow more direct patient interaction. Among the benefits that were mentioned, the reduction of the risk of transmitting infections by touching shared devices, for example, keyboards or screens, as well as the efficiency and accuracy of patient records, were also mentioned, among others.

During the session, a debate was also generated in relation to several questions that were raised in relation to the use of this technology in the healthcare environment as well as the improvements that certain professionals in the sector could suggest to achieve greater efficiency in their work.

The CSG attends the webinar organized by DATAlife with the aim of presenting and publicizing their vision of digital transformation

3 de July de 2020/in CSG Press Room, Sector Press Room /by

On June 30, DATAlife held a webinar with the aim of presenting the definition of its vision for digital transformation. Specifically, DATAlife is the Digital Innovation Hub of the primary, biotechnological and health sectors.

As part of the webinar there were Carme Pampín, President of Bioga, Luisa Boquete, Director of the Programs area of the Axencia Galega de Innovación, who spoke briefly about the positioning of DATAlife in the innovative ecosystem of Galicia; afterwards, Lucía Castro, Manager of Datalife, intervened and made a brief presentation of the Hub and the services it offers. She was followed by Luis Pérez Freire, Executive Director of Gradiant, who spoke of the context of opportunities that exist for Digital Innovation Hubs and specifically for DATAlife.

Subsequently, Rocío Mosquera, President of the Galician Health Cluster and Roberto Carlos Alonso, Deputy Secretary General of ANFACO-CECOPESCA, spoke about the opportunities for digitization through DIH, each from the perspective of their area and value chain , both in the health and food sectors. Finally, Pedro Álvarez, new president of DATAlife and Deputy to the General Management of the Zendal Group, intervened.

Datalife is presented as a comprehensive and tailor-made solution for each of the companies that require it. Thus, the SME will obtain a technologically suitable solution that will solve this innovative challenge that it initially posed, accompanied by a comprehensive expert and who will guide its solution efficiently and towards the market. DATAlife’s success lies precisely in supporting these companies and reaching the market with them.

In the European context, a series of guidelines and strategic lines on innovation have been established for the period 2021-2027. The priorities of the European program are closely aligned with the objectives of sustainable development, having established as basic guidelines the green deal, digitization with a Europe adapted to the digital age, and making all this positively revert to the economy and the European society. The motto would be: A green, digital and resilient Europe.

Thus, the aim is for the green economy and digitization to be the engine of job creation and growth in Europe. The Green Deal influences many areas and various value chains such as the agri-food, forestry and health sectors, where it seeks to create value and well-being for European society.

Regarding the opportunities of digitization, Rocío Mosquera, President of the Saúde Cluster of Galicia, emphasized the importance of being part of the Digital Innovation Hub since it is a very important engine of regional development, especially in a region like Galicia. This is so because Galicia is the oldest European region along with Asturias, which in turn is a challenge and an opportunity.

Likewise, Mosquera gave some information about Galicia. Specifically, she stated that with a population of 2.700.000 inhabitants, Galicia has 500.000 with more than 65 years and 110.000 households with a single person. There are many fields and aspects that have to be modified to respond to this demographic reality by promoting a new health and socio-health system and for this digitization is essential.

Among the priority areas in which the CSG President insisted on focusing within DATAlife, she mentioned the following:
• Attention and care centered on the citizen patient.
• Human, safe, sustainable, efficient and environmentally friendly hospitals
• Empowerment of the patient. Adherence to treatments
• Incorporation of Life History, EHR, Healthy Aging, Patient Engagement, Prevention, Technological Development, Big Data.

Finally, it is important to point out some numbers to emphasize the importance of the work that remains to be done as well as the opportunities that this entails at the European level. The areas of Health, Climate, Agri-food and Economy make up 60% of the budget for Pillar II of Horizon Europe in relation to global challenges and industrial competitiveness, which represents € 3 billion. Regarding the green pact and the fight against climate change, the objective, still pending approval, is for this item to represent 35% of the total European budget. All this shows that the guidelines of the European Union are focused on achieving a greener and increasingly digital and technological Europe.

The registration period reopens to present innovative health projects for the Living Lab in Ourense

2 de June de 2020/in CSG Press Room, Sector Press Room /by

On June 1st, the deadline for the presentation of the projects participating in the Living Lab of Ourense for the year 2020 was reopened. Interested entities will have until September 1st to present their proposals as a result of the resumption of the procedure that was paralyzed by the Covid-19 crisis.

Participation in the Living Lab is open to innovative initiatives, whether it is about products or services, in processes and / or in the business model both in the health or biomedical sector and in other cross-cutting sectors, such as food, ICT, new materials , construction, electronics and robotics. The projects presented must have the capacity to generate results with application in society, with commercial potential and able to generate profits, even in the long term.

The selected projects will be able to participate in the Living Lab of Ourense, of the Red Labsaúde de Galicia that was born as an intermediate organization that seeks to connect projects and products with end users. These laboratories are platforms for innovation and technology that involve all the actors in the field of health, promote experimentation and encourage the development of innovative solutions based on social demand. They are real spaces in which to develop and test innovative initiatives from companies and research entities.

As for the Living Lab in Ourense, those responsible for the projects will have a real environment in which to test their initiatives and prototypes and will have the support of all the agents who are part of this laboratory. On the other hand, it should be noted that it is the first laboratory of the Red Labsaúde and brings together Sergas, universities, research centers, companies, support agencies in the sector and the biomedical and biotechnology society. It is a space for creation, which promotes innovation, the transfer of knowledge and the development of an entrepreneurial business network in the health sector.

At the Living Lab in Ourense the work is based on the lines of innovation marked as priorities, all of them very patient-centered, which are: care for the elderly and / or chronic patients; weighting of patients and citizens; information and telecommunications technologies; robotics and virtual reality; impact of the environment on hospital stay; and other more open initiatives that seek to improve the quality of life and medical care that users receive.

FOUR STRATEGIES AND 17 MILLION TO IMPROVE THE SERGAS IN 5 YEARS

Pharmamar overcomes another phase of testing new drug against eye pain
