On 13th and 14th November, Guitiriz will host the 9th edition of the RIES 2024 Forum, an event that has established itself as a benchmark in the field of health and innovation. With just one month to go before the event, registration is already open and the participation of leading personalities who will lead discussions on the future of the sector is expected. Key figures confirmed for this edition include:

• Ignasi Belda, director of the Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA), will offer an insight into the impact of artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector. Belda is a benchmark in the field of AI applied to healthcare, and his participation in RIES 2024 will provide an insight into how this technology will revolutionise diagnosis, treatment and healthcare management in the coming years.
• Michel Poulain, enowned demographer and expert in the study of global longevity zones (Blue Zones). His approach, based on the analysis of factors that favour a longer and healthier life, will provide a unique perspective on the demographic challenges facing health systems in Europe and the world. Poulain has been instrumental in identifying areas of the planet where people are living significantly longer, and his knowledge will be instrumental in exploring strategies to promote healthy ageing.
• Iria Rodríguez Cobo, Head of the Data Office of the National Health System (SNS), Ministry of Health, who will bring his experience in health data management and its role in the implementation of public policies based on innovation and efficiency. Rodríguez Cobo has played a key role in the digitisation and optimisation strategy for health information in Spain.
• Mariano González Gómez, Senior Advisor at Dubai Health, a leading international healthcare institution, who will contribute his experience in innovation and management of healthcare services in large urban areas. His participation will contribute to a better understanding of global healthcare models and opportunities for collaboration between Europe and the Middle East.

In addition to these figures, #RIES24 will bring together international experts in innovation, technology and health from both the public and private sectors, creating a space for dialogue and reflection on the challenges and opportunities of the future of healthcare. An estimated 300 attendees in total are expected to attend.

The programme of the event will be as follows:

In this occasion, the event will focus on the future of healthcare, aligning with one of the main objectives of the CSG: to be a platform for public-private collaboration that promotes innovative projects in the sector, thus promoting significant advances.

As it is tradition, the discussion agoras will be the focal point of the event, offering an outstanding space for debate and reflection on crucial topics such as: Personalized and Cutting Edge Medicine, Biomedicine, Hybrid Care and Circular Health. The event will have attendance from leading figures from the healthcare sector so that companies, organizations and researchers in the sector can grow around collaboration, partnership, testing and speed to market.

The visit started on November 6th in Lleida, where partners, accompanied by a Scottish delegation, participated in the Immersive 24H Experience at Gran3dad’s care home, a best practice case selected in the project’s Handbook.

On the second day, partners visited the Galician Regional Health Department, greeted by Sofía López, General Director of Planning and Health Reform, followed by a visit to CEGADI, an intermediate care center that includes a rehabilitation center and a future Living Lab, in Santiago de Compostela.

The consortium then traveled to Vigo, visiting the Living Lab AFAGA, with a showroom from the ITGALL network and presentations on sports and exercise projects shared between CSG and the Galician Sports Cluster. Next the Senior Eco-Nect partners visited Atendo Senior Living, with an overview of their project. The day concluded with an internal project meeting.

November 8th marked the beginning of #RIES23. The social visit (a boat ride along the Vigo Estuary) and a Business Lunch preceded the Senior Eco-Nect Mid-Term Event at 16:00h, where results were shared with an engaged audience. The day concluded with the #RIES23 Gala Dinner, during which CSG awarded the two best practice cases from Galicia included in the Handbook.

The last day focused on the #RIES23 keynotes, round tables, agoras, and project presentations, centered on Innovative care ecosystems, the theme for this year, very aligned with the Senior Eco-Nect project.

#RIES, the international forum organized by the Galician Health Cluster to address the challenges and opportunities of the health ecosystem, held its eighth edition on November 8th and 9th in the Hotel Attica21 4****s Business & Wellness, Vigo. The theme focused on “Innovative care ecosystems” in order to encompass one of the main purposes of the CSG: to be a platform for public-private collaboration between different agents in the sector that promotes collaborative innovative projects.

The event, which brought together almost 200 people on the 8th and more than 300 on the 9th, had a clear business orientation and support from the public sector that was evidenced by the presence of three Departments of the Xunta de Galicia , the Vigo Free Trade Zone Consortium, the Council of Vigo, the Innovation Galician Agency and the Galician Institute for Economic Development All their representatives were accompanying the participants and visiting the different spaces of #RIES23.

long the same lines, the Twinnings of Scotland and Slovenia, two of the main international collaborators of the CSG, and the members of the Senior Eco-Nect (#SEN)project, where the Galicia Health Cluster participates in the identification of key staholders and solutions for the action plan, the organization of thematic workshops and the dissemination of the results, which were presented at the forum. The three delegations had the opportunity to experience and learn first-hand everything that is being worked on in Galicia to promote the health, care, new technologies and information technology sectors and, as always, with the possibility of being able to cross borders.

AGORAS, ROUND TABLES AND KEYNOTES

Without a doubt, the enriching program that was elaborated this year for #RIES23 is what allowed the forum to achieve such positive results. Both the participation of the Keynotes, Vania de la Fuente Núñez and Nick Guldemond, and the holding of the agoras and round tables were a complete success. The quality of the speakers and content is indisputable. Every year more work is being done to adapt to what the public demands, and having the participation of regional, national and international leaders to share their different perspectives is quite a challenge.

In the round tables, attendees were able to see several specialized professionals, especially in Artificial Intelligence and Biotechnology. They all shared their views and were able to respond and ask questions of each other to generate more discussion. The objectives of this type of dynamic are simple: promote dialogue and offer diverse opinions on a common topic. Both were achieved by all the speakers thanks to the way in which they shared their experiences and professional career.

The agoras were the point that made the difference with respect to other events of great interest. The leading entities allowed the creation of a space for interactive discussions on specific topics such as Longevity, OneHealth, Biotech and Artificial Intelligence (AI), promoting a dynamic exchange of ideas and best practices. The VIII Forum RIES 2023 provided an environment of knowledge, but also an area to establish valuable connections by giving participants the opportunity to come into contact with professionals from various sectors, promoting collaboration at all levels.

#RIES23 AWARDS AND #SEN GOOD PRACTICES

The #RIES23 awards are a tradition of this event. This is an opportunity for entities to make their innovative projects visible through a one-minute video. The candidatures presented were evaluated by the #RIES23 Honorific Committee, which designated the following winners:

• CSG Innovation Award – Plexus Tech with “Health Results Platform”
• Impact on People Award – IDEA with “Bidealde Senior Pilgrims Hostel”
• Knowledge Award – 10 METS with the presentation of its project “10mets”
• CSG Community Award – BigFormación with “BIG TEAM”
• Revelation Award – FlowReserve with “FlowReserve: personalized medicine in cardiology”
• Resilience Award – UNIRISCO, chosen by the Galician Health Cluster team for its ability to overcome adversity, adapt to difficult situations and recover from them in an exemplary manner.

In this eighth edition, the opportunity was also taken to present those selected as cases of good practices of the Galician ecosystem for the SEN Handbook. This project has as its main objective the creation of a joint action plan to support the development of European ecosystems dedicated to the silver economy, as well as to promote inclusion and interconnection between key actors in innovation in the health sector and related sectors, such as tourism and sports. The winners were:

• GRAN3DAD with the good practice “The I Feel Method”
• ATENDO with the good practice “Digital Competencies Workshop”

The VIII Forum RIES 2023 was a resounding success. The experiences shared, the knowledge acquired and the connections established during both days in Vigo have left a lasting mark on the community dedicated to building resilience in a constantly changing world. #RIES23 has marked a significant milestone, consolidating its position as an essential catalyst for progress towards a quality Galician health ecosystem. From the Galician Health Cluster we will continue working to improve ourselves in our next challenge: #RIES24.

LEX Participants

In this LEX we were accompanied by representatives of the Health Department of the Xunta de Galicia, Galaria, the University of A Coruña, VARPA Group, DomusVi, Gran3dad, O Lecer Senior Care, Bioprana, SIVSA and Atendo.

The Learning Expedition to Japan

Day 1: iPark

The LEX Japan began on October 9th with a context meeting in Tokyo, but the visits began on the 10th, the first being to iPark, the first science park managed by big pharma in Japan. The delegation participated in the visit to the facilities of this CSG collaborator, and received several visits at the joint stand representing all participating entities.

Day 2: WelTech, iCONM and OFECOME

During the second day of the Learning Expedition, a fruitful visit was carried out to the Living Lab Weltech in the city of Kawasaki integrated into its own residence with special attention to people with hearing problems.

We continued in said city to learn about the CHANGE program focused on longevity research and visited one of the iCONM research centers.

The day ended with a brief visit to the Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo

Day 3: KOTOEN, TOPCON, ZENKOUKAI and Life manager

In this LEX, in addition to the main agenda, we had a secondary one focused on medtech, which had visits on October 12th and 13th. On October 12th, the main delegation visited KOTOEN, a residence with 3 floors (daycare, autonomous people and dependent people) that promotes intergenerational exchange, while the medtech delegation visited TOPCON, a leading Japanese company in instruments for eye health.

The day continued with a visit to ZENKOUKAI, Japan’s first assistive technology Living Lab run by a social welfare corporation, with a think tank and its own robot + AI laboratory.

Finally, we were able to meet a Life Manager, who explained his role in each Japanese family.

Day 4: Shintomi and Nidek

During the fourth day we again had the main agenda and the medtech agenda, visiting the participants of the first Shintomi, a residence with a support center for juvenile dementia, and a pioneer in the use of robotic technologies or Nursing-Care Robots (NCR), and the latter NIDEK, a company specialized in the manufacture of instruments for ophthalmology and optometry.

Day 5: Oogimi Visitor Center

October 14th was the last day of the main agenda of LEX Japan. To finish this Learning Expedition, we moved to Okinawa, the island of longevity, where we visited the Oogimi Visitor Center.

Oogimi has gained relevance after the visit of the Spanish author Héctor García, who wrote the book “Ikigai” after living two weeks in the house of an 88-year-old person, who was the one who received the LEX Japan delegation in Oogimi. Oogimi and other places in Okinawa celebrate their older people by going to each other’s homes.

Extension of the Learning Expedition in Okinawa

In this LEX Japan there was the option to extend the visit in Okinawa one more day, including October 15. On this day the delegation visited Bashofu Kaikan, where demonstrations of Bashofu (a fabric that is woven with Ito Basho fibers and dyed plant yarn) are held, and Seekwasa Park. Seekwasa is a citrus fruit native to Okinawa and its inhabitants use this fruit in various dishes.

“Learning Expedition – LEX” or study missions, are one of CSG’s main internationalization services. The main objective is to identify strategic partners and investment possibilities for the CSG ecosystem.

These missions can be direct, reverse or online but always maintaining the spirit of representation of the CSG community with a common agenda for the delegation led by CSG and which will present key projects.

During the visit, there was first an introduction and presentation of iPark, and then we took a tour of its facilities, visiting the stands in Spain, Australia, China, Taiwan, Korea and the United States. In these stands, a fun dynamic was held due to the proximity to Halloween, in which sweets from different countries were exchanged.

iPark opened in 2018, and is the first big pharma-run science park in Japan. More than 150 companies/institutions are part of its ecosystem.

• November 8th session (16:00-02:00 +1 day CET): Opening fof the VIII Forum RIES 2023 (#RIES23) in a unique space for networking and business generation in a relaxed atmosphere and with reduced capacity. Its objective is to highlight the strategic twinnings, speakers, sponsors, collaborators and winners of the #RIES23 awards.

• November 9th session (9:30 – 19:00 CET): the second #RIES23 session continues to be held in a face-to-face format focused on being a space to share knowledge and experiences, prioritizing the quality of the content and the generation of synergies seeking the impact on people. Thus, there will be keynote presentations, agoras discussions, round tables, project presentations and guided tours to collect all of the above.

Presentation of Senior Eco-Nect results

The Forum RIES acts as one of the flagship events to showcase innovation in the European care sector. It has been appointed by the Senior Eco-Nect (#SEN) project leader as the venue to present the results obtained so far inteh project.

#RIES23 includes the Senior Eco-Nect (#SEN) project in its program, whose main objective is the preparation of a joint action plan to support the emergence and development of European ecosystems dedicated to the silver economy, as well as to guarantee the inclusion and interconnectivity between all the key actors of the innovation of the health sector and the transversal sectors of tourism and sport.

The Galician Health Cluster, CSG, is one of #SEN partners and participates in the mapping of the interested parties and the solutions that will be included in the action plan, the organization of thematic workshops and the dissemination of the results. The presentation of results will be communicated during the #RIES23 sessions. Interested entities can still register their Silver solution on the Silver Economy solutions map of Senior Eco-Nect and participate in the SWOT analysis of Silver ecosystems Economy at European level.
