Coinciding with the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the goal of this gathering jointly organised with the Catalan ecosystem led by AQuAS was to bring together the community of Spanish members and ecosystems to network between each other and learn best practices.

The Galician Health Cluster participated in the Ecosystems presentation and the debate panel “How to go international?”, with CSG’s Managing Director, Gisela García-Álvarez, taking part in both.

Ecosystems

The event, moderated by ECHAlliance’s Andy Bleaden, Inés Luján and Iman Amar, started with the launch of the Spanish Presidency Connector featuring the community in Spain by ECHAlliance’s Adriana Díaz. You can take a look at the document here.

The first section of the gathering focused on the Spanish ECHAlliance ecosystems with presentations from:

Panel debate on “How to go international?”

A panel debate on “How to go international”, moderated by ECHAlliance’s Adriana Díaz, closed the event. Jovan Pavićević, International Markets Director, Better, Àuria Albacete, Senior Innovation Project Leader, BIOCAT, Gisela Garcia-Alvarez, Managing Director, Cluster Saúde de Galicia and Jonathan Gómez-Raja, Chief Scientific Officer, FundeSalud, inspired the audience by sharing their experience in successfully going international, either through EU projects, international programs for start-ups or learning expeditions.

La entrada ECHAlliance first Spanish Ecosystem Gathering se publicó primero en Cluster Saúde de Galicia, CSG.

The visit started on November 6th in Lleida, where partners, accompanied by a Scottish delegation, participated in the Immersive 24H Experience at Gran3dad’s care home, a best practice case selected in the project’s Handbook.

On the second day, partners visited the Galician Regional Health Department, greeted by Sofía López, General Director of Planning and Health Reform, followed by a visit to CEGADI, an intermediate care center that includes a rehabilitation center and a future Living Lab, in Santiago de Compostela.

The consortium then traveled to Vigo, visiting the Living Lab AFAGA, with a showroom from the ITGALL network and presentations on sports and exercise projects shared between CSG and the Galician Sports Cluster. Next the Senior Eco-Nect partners visited Atendo Senior Living, with an overview of their project. The day concluded with an internal project meeting.

November 8th marked the beginning of #RIES23. The social visit (a boat ride along the Vigo Estuary) and a Business Lunch preceded the Senior Eco-Nect Mid-Term Event at 16:00h, where results were shared with an engaged audience. The day concluded with the #RIES23 Gala Dinner, during which CSG awarded the two best practice cases from Galicia included in the Handbook.

The last day focused on the #RIES23 keynotes, round tables, agoras, and project presentations, centered on Innovative care ecosystems, the theme for this year, very aligned with the Senior Eco-Nect project.

LEX Participants

In this LEX we were accompanied by representatives of the Health Department of the Xunta de Galicia, Galaria, the University of A Coruña, VARPA Group, DomusVi, Gran3dad, O Lecer Senior Care, Bioprana, SIVSA and Atendo.

The Learning Expedition to Japan

Day 1: iPark

The LEX Japan began on October 9th with a context meeting in Tokyo, but the visits began on the 10th, the first being to iPark, the first science park managed by big pharma in Japan. The delegation participated in the visit to the facilities of this CSG collaborator, and received several visits at the joint stand representing all participating entities.

Day 2: WelTech, iCONM and OFECOME

During the second day of the Learning Expedition, a fruitful visit was carried out to the Living Lab Weltech in the city of Kawasaki integrated into its own residence with special attention to people with hearing problems.

We continued in said city to learn about the CHANGE program focused on longevity research and visited one of the iCONM research centers.

The day ended with a brief visit to the Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo

Day 3: KOTOEN, TOPCON, ZENKOUKAI and Life manager

In this LEX, in addition to the main agenda, we had a secondary one focused on medtech, which had visits on October 12th and 13th. On October 12th, the main delegation visited KOTOEN, a residence with 3 floors (daycare, autonomous people and dependent people) that promotes intergenerational exchange, while the medtech delegation visited TOPCON, a leading Japanese company in instruments for eye health.

The day continued with a visit to ZENKOUKAI, Japan’s first assistive technology Living Lab run by a social welfare corporation, with a think tank and its own robot + AI laboratory.

Finally, we were able to meet a Life Manager, who explained his role in each Japanese family.

Day 4: Shintomi and Nidek

During the fourth day we again had the main agenda and the medtech agenda, visiting the participants of the first Shintomi, a residence with a support center for juvenile dementia, and a pioneer in the use of robotic technologies or Nursing-Care Robots (NCR), and the latter NIDEK, a company specialized in the manufacture of instruments for ophthalmology and optometry.

Day 5: Oogimi Visitor Center

October 14th was the last day of the main agenda of LEX Japan. To finish this Learning Expedition, we moved to Okinawa, the island of longevity, where we visited the Oogimi Visitor Center.

Oogimi has gained relevance after the visit of the Spanish author Héctor García, who wrote the book “Ikigai” after living two weeks in the house of an 88-year-old person, who was the one who received the LEX Japan delegation in Oogimi. Oogimi and other places in Okinawa celebrate their older people by going to each other’s homes.

Extension of the Learning Expedition in Okinawa

In this LEX Japan there was the option to extend the visit in Okinawa one more day, including October 15. On this day the delegation visited Bashofu Kaikan, where demonstrations of Bashofu (a fabric that is woven with Ito Basho fibers and dyed plant yarn) are held, and Seekwasa Park. Seekwasa is a citrus fruit native to Okinawa and its inhabitants use this fruit in various dishes.

What are LEX (Learning Expeditions)?

“Learning Expedition – LEX” or study missions, are one of CSG’s main internationalization services. The main objective is to identify strategic partners and investment possibilities for the CSG ecosystem.

These missions can be direct, reverse or online but always maintaining the spirit of representation of the CSG community with a common agenda for the delegation led by CSG and which will present key projects.

La entrada LEX Japan: the Learning Expedition from October 9th to 15th se publicó primero en Cluster Saúde de Galicia, CSG.

During the visit, there was first an introduction and presentation of iPark, and then we took a tour of its facilities, visiting the stands in Spain, Australia, China, Taiwan, Korea and the United States. In these stands, a fun dynamic was held due to the proximity to Halloween, in which sweets from different countries were exchanged.

iPark opened in 2018, and is the first big pharma-run science park in Japan. More than 150 companies/institutions are part of its ecosystem.

It was a networking event, within the framework of the Biospain 2023 fair, which aimed to promote business collaboration, make visible the Galician biotech innovation ecosystem and present industrial and research capabilities between leading bioregions.

OLLD are sessions that seek to immerse yourself in the local ecosystem and discover how the Living Lab methodology is applied and seen in Barcelona.

The ITGALL team will try to collect all the knowledge to be able to apply it later in each of the projects to be developed.

ENoLL is the leading international, independent and non-profit association Living Labs. Its main objective is to promote the concept of Living Labs to influence EU policies, improve Living Labs and enable their implementation at a global level.

Thanks to the collaboration of the Chamber of Commerce of A Coruña and the Galician Health Cluster, CSG, A Coruña hosted last Tuesday, July 11th, the X edition of EXPORPYMES, an event that attracted more than twenty companies from both Galicia and other countries to create synergies, strengthen ties and promote greater internationalization of the Galician business base.

The event, hosted between 9:30 a.m. and 14:00 p.m., was organized in the PALEXCO environment, turning it into an agora for debate, exchange of knowledge, and promotion of Galician products with the aim of strengthening relations between all the participants.

The role of the Galician Health Cluster, CSG

For the second consecutive year, the CSG collaborated in the organization of said meeting to present the value of the Galician health industry, but also to contextualize the advances in technological innovation that it has achieved in recent years. For this, two dynamics were carried out throughout the morning:

• CSG Connect, where the attending entities could present themselves through three key questions: the entity they represent, their differentiating value and what they are looking for from the Galician/international health ecosystem of EXPORPYMES 2023.
• 1:1 meetings, with the aim of promoting active dialogue and generating synergies between companies.

In summary, the event was a success in giving voice to each of the participating companies, expanding their network of contacts and generating collaborations for future projects. EXPORPYMES is confirmed as an international reference event, but it is not the only one.

Thanks to the collaboration of the Chamber of Commerce of A Coruña and the Galician Health Cluster, CSG, A Coruña will host tomorrow, July 11th, the X edition of EXPORPYMES, an event that will attract more than twenty companies from both Galicia and other countries to create synergies, strengthen ties and promote greater internationalization of the Galician business base.

Thus, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the PALEXCO environment will become an agora for debate, exchange of knowledge, and promotion of Galician products, with the aim of strengthening relations between all participants. In addition, the Galician Health Cluster, CSG, intervenes for the second consecutive edition to present the value of the Galician health industry, but also to contextualize the advances in technological innovation that it has achieved in recent years.

After the official inauguration by the authorities, which will be at 9:30 a.m., EXPORPYMES 2023 will kick off with joint networking sessions (10:00 a.m.), applying the methodology CSG Connect where companies must present themselves through three key questions: the entity they represent, the differentiating value of the entity and explain what they are looking for from the Galician or international health ecosystem of EXPORPYMES 2023.

Subsequently, different 1:1 meetings will be organized (12:30 p.m.) so that the participating companies can explain what they are looking for from the Galician health ecosystem, gathering their needs and the activity potential of the Galician business base in their territory. The closing of the day will be around 2:00 p.m., with a second round of informal contacts in the café for networking.

IN REGARDS TO #RIES

#RIES is the international reference forum at a national and international level to address the challenges and opportunities of the health ecosystem. Led by the Galician Health Cluster, CSG, it has been created as a meeting forum between the main agents of the public and private health and socio-health sectors at a European level in collaboration with our strategic partners of the #CSG_Community

For the second consecutive year, and in order to promote the international projection of the projects developed in our ecosystem and the collaboration of SMEs at a national and international level, the CSG collaborates with the Chamber of Commerce of A Coruña in this internationalization action EXPORPYMES (07/11 – A Coruña). This makes Galicia the epicenter of innovative projects in the health industry globally.

EXPORPYMES is part of the International Promotion Program co-financed by the FEDER, the City Council of A Coruña, the Diputación de A Coruña and the Xunta de Galicia through the Consellería do Mar and IGAPE.
